Mayor of London Boris Johnson has signalled his support in principle for the £4bn regeneration of Brent Cross Cricklewood in North London.

However, in a letter to Barnet Council, which is working with the Brent Cross Cricklewood Development Partners on the scheme, the Mayor’s office said it still had some concerns, including section 106 contributions.

These issues – mainly concerning housing, design and transport – have to be addressed before the application is referred back to the Mayor for a final decision.

Head of planning decisions Giles Dolphin said it is ‘essential’ that Transport for London is, along with Barnet Council and the developers – a partnership between Hammerson, Standard Life and Brookfield Europe – ‘made a party to the section 106 agreement.’

He also said that the levels of car parking and integration with the transport services needed to be re-thought, and said that it was ‘unacceptable’ that there could be no increase in affordable housing as a result of the scheme.

Barnet Council is still considering the planning application for the scheme, which involves 7,500 homes, three schools, health facilities, parks and open spaces.
