All are excited to be taking part in the event in aid of Shelter on Thursday July 30 and have been getting ready for the big ride in different ways.

Lee Tiplady

Art editor Lee was a keen cyclist for many years and has just got back into the game, looking to shed a few pounds. He’s been riding again for five weeks now, to and from work, clocking up 14 miles each day. He’s hoping to blast through the short course he’s chosen.

Damien St George

Key account manager Damien has had a few rides around the beautiful West Sussex countryside with his mini-navigator son Indiana. In true Indiana Jones style he was whipping Daddy to go faster.

Sebastian O’Kelly

Market reports editor Sebastian , is a keen cyclist who earlier this year raised more than £1,000 for the Anthony Nolan anti-cancer trust by riding 140 miles across the north Pennines from Whitehaven to Tynemouth.

Although he cycles the seven miles to work, he has recently been in Italy twiddling his thumbs, so fitness is on the slide.

Nonetheless, he is signed up for the epic route … and knows Surrey hills are not to be sneezed at.

He likes retro Italian steel frame bikes and will be riding a 10-speed Campagnolo fitted bike by the Rome frame-maker Lazzaretti.

Komal Shah

That’s me. I’m a leisurely cyclist keen to become a regular rider. I’ve been going around the cycling mecca (Richmond Park) a couple of evenings and at the weekend, tackling a couple big hills to get myself ready for the 51k route.

We’re all excited and looking forward to the challenge!
