There are only  two days left before over 800 cyclists come together to embark on the World’s Biggest Property Bike Ride - and chairman of EMEA retail at CBRE, Malcolm Dalgleish, tells us about his excitement ahead of his third participation.

Great Property Bike Ride 2016

This Thursday, the scenic Surrey Hills, which have become a Mecca for cycling, will see cyclists of all abilities riding to raise money for our UK charity partner Shelter. This will be my third year participating in the ride and I know that it will be a cocktail of stamina and fun!

I have been thinking about what advice I would pass on, so here are a couple of helpful tips to help you survive and enjoy this epic bike ride.

The hills are always going to be the challenge, but keep a steady rhythm and remember to alternate between sitting down and riding up and out of the saddle. This will also ensure you’re getting the most out of all the important biking muscles.

It looks like the recent spell of hot weather is set to continue for the rest of the week. This needn’t stop you enjoying the ride but be sure to take precautions to prevent overheating and dehydration. Maintaining adequate hydration is essential, drink little and often. There will be drink stations on the route where you can get some water. Also, wear sun cream, paying particular attention to the back of the neck!

Then there’s the bike, make sure you grease the sprockets, oil the chain and pack a spare inner tube if you think you may need it. Most importantly - try to rest and get a good night’s sleep the evening before – you’ll need all your energy.

No matter what distance you’re attempting – 50km or the 100km route – and whether you’re going it alone or cycling in a group, it’s sure to be a fantastic day. To top it off, every penny raised will go towards Shelter, and there’s no denying it will make a huge difference to the people it helps.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the day.
