Nick Scarles, Grosvenor
Stephen Ashworth, Reech Aim

  • Now you can profit from property, whether the market is rising or falling...using Eurex Property Futures.
  • Property derivatives, contracts based on market indices from Investment Property Databank, have been traded by investment banks and market makers, using brokers like Icap, Tullett Prebon, BGC partners and CBRE/GFI since 2004. These have primarily been over-the-counter (OTC) trades.
  • Total volume in the UK property derivatives market in 2008 was 7.5bn.
  • Since 9 February, 2009 investors have been able to trade property futures, for the first time on a listed exchange by Eurex, which is the derivatives exchange of Deutsche Boerse Group.
  • Crucially, trading on Eurex mitigates counterparty risk - all trades are guaranteed through Eurex Clearing.
  • Current market conditions, where there is so much uncertainty, create ideal conditions for derivatives trading.

Explaining the Community Infrastructure Levy: an online seminar for the whole property sector

In association with the Bank of Scotland

BOS Search

Broadcast Date: Tuesday 13th May 2008, 1pm- 2pm
Duration: 45 minute presentation, 15 minute Q&A

The Government is set to introduce a new tax on development - The Communities Infrastructure Levy - which is intended to replace the Planning Gain Supplement.

Key elements of CIL are:

  • It will be a tax on most new developments. Some small scale development may not be subject to CIL (e.g. householder development by homeowners).
  • Local authorities will have the option of introducing CIL in their areas. If they do so, they will follow a procedure for setting, reviewing and then publishing the amount of CIL to be paid in a charging schedule.
  • CIL will be payable when development begins following the granting of planning permission. But the amount to be paid will be clear in advance of submitting a planning application.

Join Property Week on May 13th for an online seminar that will get to bottom of this new levy and find out how it will affect you. Giles Barrie, editor of Property Week will chair a panel of 3 experienced speakers including the Governments deputy director of Planning, Economic and Social Policy.

Who will be affected?

Private Sector - real estate activities - anybody wishing to expand and develop new premises, subject to low threshold exemption; construction and industry services; land owners; individuals seeking planning permission for new developments - subject to low threshold exemption; housing associations and legal representatives or purchasers of new developments.

Public Sector- local Government and other public agencies.

Speakers:

Miles Gibson, deputy director, Planning Economic and Social Policy - Communities and Local Government
Robyn Pile, development director, Land Securities
Stuart J Robinson Executive Director, Planning, CB Richard Ellis Ltd
Chair - Giles Barrie, editor, Property Week
