Evergrande Real Estate Group, the mainland's third-largest developer, is to beef up its Chongqing presence with a three billion yuan (HK$3.41bn) tourism investment.

Liao Jianing, a director at Evergrande Real Estate Chongqing, said the firm had acquired a development site in Huayan, Jiulongpo district, for 900m yuan last month.

The site, about 20 minutes by car from the heart of the city, will provide a total gross floor area of 1m sq m. The area is one of the most scenic parts of the city.

"We are still in the planning stage and the design for the project has not yet been finalised," he said.
