Westfield has submitted plans to create a food court at its Broadmarsh Shopping Centre in Nottingham as it prepares to start a £40m refurbishment of the scheme before Easter

The 3,082 sq ft food court, which will be at the heart of Broadmarsh on Middle Walk, will comprise 11 restaurants that will cater for 800 diners. The food court will have seven restaurants, with open-plan kitchens to create the sense of a “food theatre”, and four central kiosks.

The revamp of the 467,132 sq ft shopping centre will provide the larger, double-height units now required by retailers so the scheme can attract new brands to Nottingham. Westfield hopes to start opening the refurbished area in phases before Christmas and have the entire centre trading by Easter 2012.

Apple is thought to be among the retailers in talks with Westfield about taking space in the newly refurbished units. Before the recession, Broadmarsh was to undergo a £700m redevelopment and extension, but this has been put on hold.
