York’s former Terry’s chocolate factory is set for a complete redevelopment following a planning application submission by new owner Grantside this week.

Grantside, through its development company, GHT Developments, has submitted the planning application for a mixed use scheme to include 296,040 sq ft (27,502 sq m) of office space, a luxury hotel, 389 residential units and community and leisure facilities.

As reported in Property Week (20-01-06) GHT Developments, a joint venture between York based Grantside and Tritax Assets, purchased the former chocolate factory in April 2006 beating more than 20 rival bids to the site close to York railway station.

Plans for the scheme include the sites famous listed clock tower building to become a hotel with the clock tower itself becoming a gallery and restaurant.

Work is expected to commence on site in spring 2007 and it is likely to be a phased programme to minimise disruption once work begins
