Anglesea consent for Yorkshire "super-shed"
Anglesea Capital has been given the green light to link two industrial units at its Sherburn Distribution Park in West Yorkshire to create a 550,000 sq ft ‘supershed’, TheBusinessDesk.com reported today.
Once developed, the unit will become one of only four new build units in excess of more than 500,000 sq ft in the UK.
Sherburn Distribution Park outside Leeds comprises 1.4m sq ft of industrial accommodation.
Debenhams has a 667,000 sq ft distribution centre at the site, which includes tenants such as Optare, EDM Group, Eddie Stobart, Sainsburys and Kingspan.
Nick Sowerbutts, of Anglesea Capital, said: “We took the decision to seek planning to join two units of 190,000 sq ft and 330,000 sq ft to create greater flexibility for occupiers.
“The deal with Debenhams represented a significant investment into the region and clearly demonstrated the suitability of Sherburn Distribution Park as a northern base for major retailers.”
Toby Vernon, senior director at CBRE which is marketing the unit, said: “Recent demand has been significantly driven by retailers seeking to capitalise on economies of scale by consolidating supply chains into a smaller number of strategically located, larger footprint buildings.”
