Pakistan’s economy will grow by 3.5 -4% in the year ending June 2009 despite the global downturn, one of the country’s senior financial officials said.

The figure would be down from 7% in the previous fiscal year, but respectable given the political and security challenges facing the country, which had to seek a $7.6bn (€5.76bn, £5.4bn) rescue package from the International Monetary Fund last year.
