Perth rents might be going up, but homes in the city are getting harder to find, new research shows.

Data from SQM Research shows there were just 1200 homes in the metropolitan area available for rent in June, 450 fewer than the previous month.

However, the vacancy rate of 0.8% was 0.2 percentage points higher than at the same time last year.

The figures follow recent research from Australian Property Monitors showing the median weekly rent in Perth in June was $350, or 17 per cent more than a year previously.
