More than 30 quoted property companies, fund managers and banks have teamed up in a campaign to increase public understanding of the UK REIT
The Reita campaign, which was launched today, has been designed to raise awareness and understanding of REITs amongst financial advisers and private investors before the introduction of the long-awaited tax-efficient means of property investment is introduced on January 1.
Members of the REITs and Quoted Property Group led by the British Property Federation (BPF) and Investment Property Forum have created a new internet portal offering an impartial source of expert information on quoted property investment, REITs and the funds that will invest in them. The new portal – reita.org – is the UK’s first dedicated educational resource for information on Real Estate Investment Trusts and related property investment.
Liz Peace, BPF Chief Executive, said: ‘The long awaited arrival of UK REITs on New Year’s Day 2007 marks an important and exciting milestone in property investment in Britain. But while there is a clear appetite for property among private investors, there is little unbiased information publicly available on REITs and quoted property. We wanted to create something to fill this gap and we are confident that reita.org will be widely welcomed and used.’
Patrick Sumner, chairman of The REITs and Quoted Property Group, said: ‘Our portal will be the UK’s first non-partisan resource for information on REITs and property investment. The subject matter may appear complex to some, but our aim is to expand and educate a wider audience to the benefits of property investment.’
