The world’s largest casino opens today in Macau. Financial Times

Las Vegas Sands’ $2.5bn Venetian Macau scheme is big enough to hold 90 jumbo jets and was built at a cost of $2.4bn.

It has 3,000 suites – equivalent to 25% of Macau’s stock of hotel rooms – and 1.2m sq ft of convention space. It is believed to be the world’s second-largest, non-industrial complex after the Aalsmeer flower market in Holland.

The Venetian is Las Vegas Sands’ second opening in Macau in four years. Monopolised by tycoon Stanley Ho for 40 years, the market was deregulated in 2002 and last year eclipsed the Las Vegas Strip as the world’s largest gambling centre.
