The Royal Marines Charity has teamed up with 14 property and construction companies including Patron Capital, Persimmon Homes and Howdens to design and build a bespoke house for a disabled royal marine.

Corporal Phil Eaglesham fell ill while preparing to leave Camp Bastion, the British Army’s former HQ in Afghanistan, after his third operational tour. He was diagnosed with Q fever, which is caused by inhaling bacterial spores from infected animals.

With the illness hugely affecting Eaglesham’s life, the industry stepped in to help. The companies involved drew on their specialist knowledge to build a house, largely free of charge, to enable the veteran to move with greater independence and, in his own words, to have a chance “to make a life”.

Truly a case of making a house a home.
