Brexit’s winners – and losers – city by city

UK cities with strong tech and life science sectors such as Cambridge will continue to outperform those with economies based on agriculture and manufacturing in the months following Brexit – but their growth is likely to slow significantly, predicts a report by the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr).

The research, carried out for law firm Irwin Mitchell, predicts that Cambridge will be the UK’s top-performing city in the second quarter of 2019, growing by 2% in gross value added (GVA), followed by Reading and Milton Keynes, each growing 1.9%. Belfast is expected to be the slowest growing, at 0.4%, followed by Middlesbrough and Swansea, each tipped for 0.5% GVA growth.
