RESI 2017 is set to be the most important yet. Property Week has lined up the biggest names in property and politics to assess the housing landscape in the wake of the general election and appointment of Alok Sharma as housing minister alongside lots of new features for 2017 including a proptech stream, first-ever #RESIdebate and the formation of our house band.

We will also investigate the potential impact of Brexit and ask what lessons need to be learned from the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

In keeping with this year’s theme of Modern Methods of Disruption, we will be running a stream of content dedicated to proptech for the first time.

We will also be hearing from one of the biggest disruptors of all: WeWork, which will be talking about its new co-living concept WeLive. BTR, stamp duty, modular construction and international innovations will be other key talking points.

Ahead of the event we will be hosting a special Twitter debate on #RESIdebate featuring the head of residential research at Savills, Lucian Cook, on 17 August - click here to find out more details on how to get involved.

Alongside this, we are forming a RESI house band (see what we did there?) to play at Celtic Manor this September - called the, ahem, House of the Resi Sons and Daughters. We are calling on all BTR Bowies, modular Keith Moons, proptech Princes and housing Hendrixes to get in touch with @resievent on Twitter or email newsdesk@propertyweek.com.

So if you are a resi rocker who can hit a snare as well as you can snare a planning consent or a PRS popstar who can bang out a tune as well as you can bang out a deal, your time has come.

Never has there been a greater need for the sector to come together to debate the challenges we face - here’s more on why:

2 Grenfell, politics & planning

We will be asking how building standards and fire safety regulations need to be improved in light of the Grenfell Tower fire and what lessons the property industry needs to learn, particularly with regard to buildings that have been converted under PDR.

We will also examine what the appointment of Alok Sharma as housing minister means for the housing white paper and debate stamp duty, the growing role of local authorities, the burgeoning build-to-rent sector and how planning can be unlocked to help rather than hinder housing delivery.

3 The proptech revolution

The theme of this year’s conference is Modern Methods of Disruption and we will be hearing from some of the biggest disruptors around in Speakers’ Corner, sponsored by Osborne Clarke.
For the first time at RESI, we will be running a parallel stream of content, which will be dedicated to all things proptech. That means that a whole new crowd of speakers and delegates will be attending the event. Don’t miss out on your opportunity to hear what the rising stars of proptech have to say and to network with them.

4 The international dimension

The sector has embraced modern methods of construction (MMC) over the past couple of years and it is arguably driving the growth of BTR.
But there are also lessons to be learned from overseas. We will be showcasing the best-in-class initiatives of leading international players as well as assessing how MMC is evolving in the UK. It is also set to be a key talking point at an exclusive developer round table, which will be attended by some of the UK’s biggest housing developers - who you will be able to meet and network with afterwards.
