B&B deal boosts UK loan sales

Npl transactions

The value of real estate-backed loan sales in the UK rose to €17.9bn (£15.6bn) in 2017, with Blackstone’s purchase of the Bradford & Bingley portfolio accounting for €15bn of the total.

CBRE’s European NPL Market 2018 report showed the overall figure is significantly up from 2016 when transactions totalled €4.4bn, but down 34% without the Blackstone deal.

The report added that the UK is at the end of its deleveraging cycle and as a result investor interest is turning to less mature markets, such as Italy, Portugal and Greece which still have a significant stock of non-performing loans to resolve.
