As yet more companies have begun to take the controversial route in an attempt to slash their oversized property estates and return to profitability, a growing number of landlords and retailers have railed against the practice, arguing that it is cynically being misused by financially stable retailers to get out of store leases they signed as part of over-ambitious expansion plans.
