Student housing kicks off £150m scheme.
In partnership with the University of Lincoln it is building 1,372 student accommodation units across 10 buildings. The first 407 are expected to be completed by the start of the 2020 academic year, with the remainder being ready by the autumn term of 2021.
Subsequent phases, for which plans are being drawn up by Aberdeen Standard (the merged investment business of Aberdeen Asset Management and Standard Life Investments) could include up to 485,000 sq ft of new retail and leisure space, around 150 homes, a hotel, car park and public realm.
Standard Life has owned the St Marks site since 2003. According to David Stewart, fund manager at Aberdeen Standard, the investor has tried to bring forward a number of schemes over the years. None had got through the planning process but it wasn’t about to give up.
