V&A museum arrival heralds Dundee’s ‘Bilbao moment’

The development of the V&A Dundee had its teething problems, not least in terms of its cost. The original budget for the building when the design competition was launched stood at £43m, but the figure ballooned to £80m.

However, if the museum’s economic impact is anything like as pronounced as the Guggenheim’s, the inflated budget will have been more than worth it – additional activity generated in Bilbao is estimated to have paid for the museum within three years. So, what impact has the V&A Dundee had on the city’s fortunes in the last year?
