Inspired by the World Cup heroics of the England national team in Russia this summer, Property Week raised its game at the Blayze Group Property 5-a-Side tournament last month to actually win something. OK, it wasn’t the big prize.

That accolade went to Gardiner & Theobald, which retained its title in the main tournament after winning 2-1 against Devonshires to claim the trophy.

But Property Week, which was media partner, did emerge victorious in the plate contest at the Powerleague Shoreditch arena.

In the group stages of the contest, which pitted 24 five-a-side teams from the industry against one another, the PW team produced two wins and two defeats, which was enough to qualify for the plate tournament.

They progressed to the plate final to beat Glenny 3-1, thanks to goals from Dan Brown and Sebastian Sanchez.

The event’s biggest winner, however, was LandAid. The tournament, now in its third year, raised a record total of almost £3,000 on the day to support efforts to end youth homelessness.

Commenting after the event, organiser Leo Gee of Blayze said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the continued success of the Blayze Group Property 5-A-Side Tournament. Despite the unexpected weather change, this year’s tournament was more competitive than ever before and a great atmosphere. We would like to thank all participants, supporters, masseuse and the team at Powerleage for making this years’ tournament such a success.”

With Blayze pledging details on the 2019 event will follow soon, there’s time for even more of the sector to shine up those boots for the new season…
