Net retail closures ‘highest in five years’

The UK saw the largest half-year net decline in retail units for five years in the first six months of 2018, according to new research.

The report, which was compiled for PwC by the Local Data Company, found that a net 1,123 stores disappeared from Great Britain’s top 500 high streets in the first half of this year. In H1 2017, that figure was 222.
