Two occupiers have launched office searches totalling 200,000 sq ft in Staines – in the same week as a 380,000 sq ft office-led scheme in the town centre won detailed planning consent.

Centrica, the gas company, has started a search for 100,000 sq ft of new office space in Staines.

It has appointed CB Richard Ellis to acquire it new space in a search thought to be motivated by the expiry of its current lease at The Causeway site in 2013.

Also in Staines, at The Causeway, Astellas Pharma has appointed Knight Frank to find 100,000 sq ft of space within 15 miles of the town in neighbouring Bracknell, Slough, Weighbridge, and Farnborough.

This will come as welcome news for Trevor Silver and Stephen Morgan's Landid: the developer this week won detailed planning consent from Spelthorne Council to build up to 300,000 sq ft of offices in the town.

After over a year of consultation with the Council the developer has obtained consent to build 380,000 sq ft of office-led mixed use scheme which will include retail, residential and a possible hotel.

The developer is now consulting its partner, RREEF, to timetable the development of the 380,000 sq ft mixed-use scheme.

It bought the site, known as Majestic House, from Tidegrove Holdings in July 2007.
