Genesis Housing Group has got the go-ahead to replace a redundant office building in London’s Vauxhall with 69 affordable apartments.

Genesis, in partnership with Ridgeford Properties, won consent for the £18m scheme from Lambeth Council.

The 4,000 sq ft development at One Glyn Street in Spring Gardens will also include a café and a further £200,000 from the developer will go towards local community facilities. The new development has been designed by HOK International for Genesis, which is a registered social landlord.

Peter Emmerton, Genesis Housing’s Development Manager for the scheme, said: ‘We have worked intensively with Lambeth Council to bring forward this development, which will provide high quality affordable housing through shared ownership, intermediate and social rented tenures, giving fresh opportunities to local people to get onto the housing ladder. There is an overriding need for this type of accommodation in the borough.’

Construction will start in 2008. Rolfe Judd advised Genesis.
