Aldi, the supermarket chain, has agreed terms with Stoke-on-Trent Regeneration a joint venture between St Modwen Properties and Stoke City Council to anchor its Stoke scheme.

Aldi has taken a 15,000 sq ft store at the District Centre which forms part of the 400 acre Trentham Lakes development in Stoke on Trent.

Aldi is the first retailer to sign at the proposed scheme and construction of the anchor store starts next month.

The scheme will also comprise a 99-space car park and five 1,000 sq ft speculatively built shops.

The scheme will total 20 million sq ft of commercial and residential space as well as a community centre and a pub/restaurant.

Euan Lindsay, St Modwen¹s development manager, said: ‘Securing a strong covenant such as Aldi, is having a positive impact on the five 1,000 sq ft retail units. We are currently in talks with several prospective retailers and will look to announce details of additional deals taking place over the coming months.’
