Croydon Council has appointed architect Will Alsop to draw up a masterplan for Croydon town centre

Alsop’s firm SMC Alsop has already drawn up a number of masterplans for other towns including Bradford, Middlehaven and Barnsley.

Tibbalds Planning & Urban Design has also been appointed to assist the council, ahead of a shortlist that included MAKE, OMA and EDAW.

Croydon council is preparing an ‘area action plan’ which will provide a framework to develop a mixed-use development and an enhanced public realm in the area.

Councllor Chris Wright, portfolio holder for planning, environment and urban development, said: ‘Croydon has undergone significant change in the past decade including London’s first light rail system but still has great potential for further development as both a commercial and residential centre.’
