Amec Developments has been chosen as the preferred developer for a £300m regeneration project in Swindon

The company beat competition to develop the mixed-use Exchange scheme in Swindon Town Centre from rivals Akeler, Blackfriars Investments, CTP St James and Eastcott Regeneration Partnership.

The scheme will include 592,020 sq ft (55,000 sq m) of office space, 269,1000 sq ft (25,000 sq m) of retail space, a 139,932 sq ft (13,000 sq m) hotel and 450 homes, 30% of which will be affordable.

The selection, announced today, was made by the New Swindon Company and partners South West Regional Development Agency, English Partnerships and Swindon Borough Council.

Work is due to start on site in 2008.
