A joint venture between North West based developers Ask and Bluemantle has been granted planning permission for a £210m mixed-use scheme in Bolton town centre.

Last Thursday Bolton City Council granted consent for the scheme on 14 acres at Church Wharf, in the north east of the Town Centre, which will provide more than 480,000 sq ft of commercial space and up to 720 homes.

The proposal includes 300,000 sq ft of offices across eight buildings, a multi-screen cinema, shops, cafes, bars and a 160-bed hotel.

‘The next challenge will be to see if the public and private sectors can work closely together to overcome the difficulties of today’s market conditions and move towards the first phase of development,’ said Bluemantly chief executive Mark Caldwell.

‘It is at times of economic stress that public sector support for regeneration projects of this nature becomes critical.’

Ask’s and Bluemantle’s proposal, designed by architect careyjones, was selected from a shortlist of four.

A detailed planning application for the first phase of the scheme will be submitted next year.
