Ask Developments and Realty Estates have completed the purchase of the former Boddingtons Brewery in Manchester city centre

As revealed in Property Week (28.04.06), the Ask and Realty joint venture has paid Interbrew around £9m for the 7.25 acre (2.93 ha) site on Ducie Street outside Manchester city centre.

The pair will now embark on a masterplanning process for the site in conjunction with Manchester City Council. They have appointed architects EDAW and HOK to draw up plans, which are likely to focus on an employment generating development in line with the council’s wider regeneration strategy.

Demolition of former brewery buildings will also now commence.

Sir Howard Bernstein, chief executive of Manchester City Council, said: ‘This is a welcome step towards bringing this important site back into an employment generating use, supporting both city centre business growth and the wider regeneration of north Manchester.’

Ken Knott, chief executive of Ask Developments, said: ‘Exciting times lie ahead for this area of Manchester, and we expect to play our part, working alongside the council.’
