Big Picture Developments has submitted plans for a major mixed used development called The Lighthouse which it says will create a northern gateway to Belfast city centre.
The development company, founded by Barry Gilligan, plans a scheme that will comprise 180,000 sq ft of office space, 150 apartments including an affordable housing element, car parking and supporting retail and leisure facilities at a site bounded by Great St George’s Street and Nelson Street near the slip roads of the M2 and M3 motorways.
Lighting up the way
Gilligan said the £90m scheme will provide a catalyst for the regeneration of the area which has been neglected over the last 30 years. He said: ‘The Lighthouse is a highly innovative scheme that creates an iconic building for the northern side of the city centre….We are very confident that the size, quality and strategic location of The Lighthouse will create significant interest amongst potential new investors when they come here.'
The site is designated as a development opportunity site in the new draft Belfast Metropolitan Area Plan and lies within the Laganside and North Docks character area.
The Robinson Patterson Partnership is architect.
