The BBC has agreed the detailed terms under which it will move many of its departments to Salford in Greater Manchester. Financial Times
Yesterday the BBC announced it had reached agreement with Peel Holdings over the detailed terms under which it will occupy buildings at Salford Quays.
Preliminary work is expected to begin at Salford Quays within days, followed by a start on construction in September.
Five London-based departments, representing 1,500 staff, will move to Salford: BBC children, including CBBC and CBeebies television and radio, BBC Children’s Learning, parts of BBC Future Media & Technology including BBC Research & Development, BBC Radio Five Live and BBC Sport.
Estimates of the the cost of the move have fallen from the initial £600m to £200m.
Around 800 staff based in Manchester will also move to the new site.
