Southwark Council has granted planning permission for the Beetham Organisation’s 52-storey storey tower on the southside of the River Thames in London.
One Blackfriars Road
The 170m tower called One Blackfriars Road is next to Blackfriars Bridge and will house a six-star 261-room hotel and 64 apartments. The permission follows modifications to the scheme agreed with English Heritage after consent was first granted in July this year.
The tower will also host a viewing platform and skydeck while the lower levels will comprise a ‘wrap-around’ plaza with cafes, restaurants and shops.
Major iconic landmark
Hugh Frost, chairman of Beetham Organization, said: ‘One Blackfriars Road is destined to become a major iconic landmark and will bring a major boost for the South Bank as one of the capital’s leading tourist destinations.’
Ian Simpson Architects designed the tower.
