Regeneration company ReBlackpool has lost its chairman Professor Sir Peter Hall after four years at the helm.

Hall will leave to head up a major bid for European funding for an extension to Blackpool’s tramway.

Hall said: ‘After nearly four years in the chair at ReBlackpool, helping to develop the casino bid and then the post-casino regeneration strategy to rebuild the town’s economy, published in our Blackpool Task Force report to government last summer, I think it is time to move on. As ReBlackpool shifts from strategic thinking to delivery my successor will lead on this delivery.’

The plans for the tramway include linking the existing route with the South Fylde railway line to serve Blackpool Airport and taking Blackpool trams to Preston.

The plan is to use new technology, launched in the German city of Kassel last August.
