Hazel Blears, the new secretary of state for Communities and Local Government, is to speak at RESI 07

The Salford MP replaced Ruth Kelly in prime minister Gordon Brown's reshuffle and her department today published a new Green Paper on housing. Her keynote address will take place at the start of the afternoon session on Tuesday 11th September at the Celtic Manor Resort, following a Cabinet meeting in the morning.

The conference will also feature an exhibition of this year's Housing Design Awards, sponsored by her department and David Birkbeck, chief executive of Design for Homes, will chair two housing design breakout sessions titled 'Designing the right product for tomorrow's buyer' featuring leading architects and resi' experts.

Another new breakout has been added to the programme focusing on the international residential investment market.

RESI 07 will also feature a debate on the motion 'This house believes solving the UK housing crisis is too important to be left to the public sector'. Speakers include BPF chief executive Liz Peace, former housing minister, Nick Raynsford MP and Urban Splash deputy chief executive, Nick Johnson.
