Sir Richard Branson, is considering a return to the mortgage market.

Virgin is understood to be in talks with a number of international banks and at least one of the British lenders which counts the Government as a shareholder about forming a joint venture to launch another mortgage offering.

Sir Richard, who sold The One Account, Virgin’s previous home-loans venture, to Royal Bank of Scotland, said there was an opportunity to take market share amid the general paralysis caused by the banking crisis.
