BT plans to develop 120 wind farms throughout the UK with the aim of generating a quarter of its own electricity by 2016. The Times. The Independent. Financial Times

The telecoms company is in talks with investors and energy partners about raising £250m to build wind turbines on sites across Britain. It has already applied for planning permission for three sites in Cornwall, Orkney and Shetland and is weighing up other suitable sites on its own or adjacent land.

The £250m build costs would be borne by energy generators, which would own the wind farms and sell the electricity back to BT.
