Tory leader David Cameron has slammed Labour’s Budget 2009 and said its policy was an ‘utter mess’ with the fast rise in unemployment, the worst recession this century and the ‘worst peacetime public finances we have ever known’.

He said any hope that Labour had any sort of economic competence to lead the UK out of recession was ‘dead, over and finished’.

Cameron said Labour’s pre-budget report in November had proved to be completely wrong even though it knew there was a world recession in effect.
