The UK budget hotel market has nearly doubled in size since 2000, pushing its turnover beyond £1bn, thanks largely to an increase in use by business travellers. Financial Times

Whitbread’s Premier Travel Inn and Dubai International Capital’s Travelodge have provided much of the supply growth, having added about 8,000 rooms a year on average so far this decade, according to research by TRI Hospitality Consulting.

The UK budget hotel market has 85,665 rooms in 1,171 hotels. Premier Travel Inn has 38.2% of the market, compared with 22.6% for Travelodge and 12.9% for Express by Holiday Inn.
