Canary Wharf Group has teamed up with the Mayor of London and the Clinton Climate Initiative as part of a new sustainability drive.

The developer has joined the Mayor’s Better Building Partnership of property companies looking to build greener buildings.

Canary Wharf has already been working to reduce the carbon footprint of its new buildings and is now planning to bring its existing stock in line with environmental objectives.

George Iacobescu, chief executive of CWG, said: ‘This proposal is a very exciting prospect for both the public and private sectors. Canary Wharf Group recognises the importance of sustainability both in terms of construction and ongoing use of buildings. We want to ensure that we are at the forefront of green construction and can lead the industry in this field.’
