Plans to redevelop two Thistle Hotels in Kensington into a luxury residential scheme have been approved by planners.

The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea last night voted unanimously to approve a planning application lodged by Cambulo Property Holdings, in which Christian Candy has a 50% stake. The 50% partner is unknown.

The project will be one of the largest restorations in the Kensington & Chelsea in recent years. The proposed development will comprise 97 apartments, ranging from studios to four bedroom apartments and a large five-bedroom penthouse. The design combines restoration of the best of the existing Victorian buildings with three new buildings.

Planners gave Cambulo the Green light to the scheme after significant revisions to the original plan were made.

Candy & Candy has been appointed development managers and will beleading the interior design for the project. David Chipperfield Architects has been appointed as the architect; DP9 is the planner.
