Castlemore Securities has been given the green light from planners for its Mere Green mixed-use scheme in Birmingham.

The developer’s urban regeneration arm SpringUR, was given the go-ahead this morning to redevelop a 3 acre site near the city’s suburb of Sutton Coldfield.

The scheme will include a mix of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants as well as 152 flats and 25 shops developed around a new village square.

Castlemore purchased the site from Municipal Charities for £11m last year.

Brett Lovett, architectural director of SpringUR, said: ‘This is the first SpringUR scheme to make planning since the company was launched some 18 months ago’

Work is expected to commence on the scheme early next year, and completion is expected in 2010.
