Broadcaster Channel 4 has confirmed Leeds as the location for its new headquarters, selecting the Yorkshire city ahead of Birmingham and Manchester.
Leeds will be home to Channel 4’s new national headquarters from 2019, while Bristol and Glasgow have been chosen from a wider shortlist to house two smaller ‘creative hubs’.
In March, Channel 4 committed to establishing a new national HQ and two ‘creative hubs’ when it launched a new strategy called ‘4 All The UK’. Under the plans, Channel 4 aims to increase its ‘nations and regions’ output (that produced outside of London) from 35% to 50% by 2023, spending an extra £250m outside of London over that period. It is the biggest structural change in its 35-year history according to the broadcaster.
