The City of London is reviewing the future of the City Business Library. The Times

The City authority has launched a consultation process into the future of the library, which costs £1.3m a year. Its lease runs out in 2009.

It has not rules out moving the library, which has been based off Aldermanbury since 1991, entirely online. There has been some sort of archive service at Guildhall since the 19th century, but most big banks and other institutions have built up their own databases and visitor numbers have halved since the late 1990s.

There is the possibility of combining it with a partner, such as the British Library or a local business school.
