Thirteen areas of England that could win new powers to boost their prosperity and development were named yesterday. Financial Times

The government’s city-region concept focuses on the economic potential which, it believes, can be unlocked if neighbouring local authorities transcend administrative, structural and political boundaries in order to work together to tackle their areas’ key issues.

No new money is being allocated by the government.

The 13 areas will now develop multi-area agreements, setting priorities on how to increase competitiveness and quality of life in ways relevant to their areas.
