Britain’s construction industry shrank more slowly than expected last month, in the latest sign that the pace of decline in the UK economy is decelerating.
The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply/Markit construction PMI index, which measures activity in the sector, nudged up to a reading of 30.9 in March compared with a record low of 27.8 struck in February.
Nevertheless, CIPS Director Roy Ayliffe warned that 'unremitting global forces continued to batter the UK construction sector'.
