Hotel entrepreneur Peter Roberts is to launch Countrywide Hotel Acquisitions following the sale of hotel group Golden Tulip UK to Whitbread for £44m.

His new company, based in Yorkshire, has formed a joint venture with Whitbread to find and buy sites for the Premier Inn brand.

Golden Tulip
Roberts, who founded Golden Tulip UK in 2002 and sold to Whitbread in September, has appointed Angela Crawshaw and Becky Anderson, both previously members of Golden Tulip UK’s property and acquisition team to work on acquitions.

Roberts said: ‘Premier Inn is the UK’s fastest growing hotel business with a target of 45,000 rooms by 2010.’

40-400 rooms
Countrywide is looking to both buy freehold sites and existing hotels as well as entering into lease agreements on behalf of Premier Inns for hotels of between 40-400 rooms. These can vary from smaller hotels with a family restaurant concept on the edge of urban areas to city centre stand-alone sites.
