Austrian property management firm, IG Immobilien has signed up the The Royal Netherlands Embassy and the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands at its Kortenberglaan 4-10, 1000 Brussels office.

The letting at the 78,232 square foot office space is for 15 years, and they will move in 2010. It marks the office scheme agreed by an embassy or diplomatic representation in Brussels since 2004.

The Royal Netherlands Embassy and the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands are currently housed at Hermann-Debrouxlaan 48, 1160 Brussels.

Jan Willem Beaujean, Netherlands Embassy spokesman said: ‘On the 50th anniversary of the European Union we wanted to be headquartered in the European district like the five other first member states.

‘The fact that our employees can walk to the European Union head office also underlines the importance we attach to ecological issues.'

‘We want this building to be the symbol of the Netherlands in Belgium. Aside from being used for diplomatic issues, this ‘Dutch house’ will also function as a multi-disciplinary space for exhibitions and lectures by Dutch people. We are bringing a slice of the Netherlands and its culture to Belgium.’
