A planning application has been submitted for the £30m redevelopment of Edgbaston Cricket Ground.

Warwickshire County Cricket Club has submitted the outline planning application to Birmingham City Council for a new stadium, which will increase capacity to 25,000, and additional conferencing, exhibition, player, media and visitor facilities.

The scheme, designed by Broadway Malyan, also includes a mixed-use development on land to the north and west of the 21.6 acre site.

Plans include 150,000 sq ft of offices, 254 homes, a 90,000 sq ft hotel, 49,000 sq ft of restaurants and bars, 12,000 sq ft of shops and 25,000 sq ft of crèche and leisure facilities.

The scheme which will be built by Birmingham based regeneration developer MCD Property.

Subject to planning approval, redevelopment is expected to start in September 2009.

There will be a break in development for the international matches in summer 2010, with completion expected in time for the test match against India in 2011.
