Footfall at Manchester Arndale for the final five weeks of 2008 was up 7% compared to the same period last year it revealed today.
The property, which is managed by Prupim on behalf of joint owners Prudential and Capital Shopping Centres, saw more than 35 million people visit during 2008, up from 31 million last year. Sales in December increased by 8% compared to the same period last year.
Andrew Foulds, director of asset management at Prupim, said: ‘Manchester Arndale is continuing to demonstrate that its success story is no flash in the pan and despite the economic downturn, retailers in the centre are benefiting from footfall figures and increasing sales. Major retailers are inquiring about opening new units because of the centre’s performance.’
Manchester Arndale is one of the largest city centre shopping centres in the UK.
The centre’s tenants include Next with a 150,000 sq ft flagship store, as well as TopShop, River Island, G-Star, TK Maxx, Disney and over 200 other units.
The centre reopened three years ago, following a £150m redevelopment.
