Fosters & Partners has revealed the design of its first project – The Aleph - in Latin America

The architecture firm has designed a waterside mixed-use cultural and residential quarter in Argentina’s capital Beunos Aires. It is being developed by local developer Faena Group.

The scheme, which will see the redevelopment of the former industrial port district of Puerto Madero, comprises three mixed-use residential schemes, including one nine-storey residential tower. The scheme is connected by a series of courtyards and open terraces while a covered market square with dockside frontage is the centrepiece of the residential quarter. A retail element including shops, galleries and cafes will also be developed.

The second phase of the scheme comprises a clubhouse with swimming pool, a 100-room hotel and spa. Fosters said the design was ‘inspired by the architectural and cultural legacy of the Belle Epoque era’ and

The scheme will open in 2010 in time for the bicentennial of the Argentinean Republic.
