Game, the listed computer game retailer, has bought Games Station from Blockbuster for £74m.

Game has bought the rival chain to improve its high street presence.

Game Station 217 stores are predominantly in secondary high street and shopping centre locations and will complement Game’s prime shopping centre stores.

A statement from Game said: ‘The brand will sit alongside the existing GAME format, and the enlarged business will be able to expand the group's offer and improve consumer choice on the high street.’

Also today retailer Carpetright has acquired the privately owned Storeys chain for £18.5m.

Storeys, based in the north east has around 30 branches, and Carpetright will keep the Storeys trading name.
